Just a quick note before 2015 draws to a close…
I hope you’re all having a wonderful end to 2015, and – if you’re lucky – planning a trip to Italy in the coming year. There is plenty of information on Italy Explained to help with that planning, including the calendar of Italian holidays, festivals, and special events – which I just finished updating for 2016.
Carnival happens early this year – it starts on January 23rd in Venice, and the wild orange-throwing melee in Ivrea gets going on January 6th. Easter is a bit early, too, with Palm Sunday on March 20th and Easter Sunday on the 27th.
For the most part, everything else is roughly where it’s been in past years, though I’ve added a few more festivals and events to the calendar for 2016. I didn’t include the Holy Year events, since there’s a whole article about the 2016 Jubilee events you can read for information.
