Italy Travel News: August 22 – September 19

Here’s a round-up of the latest Italy travel news and information for August 22 through September 19:

  • Italy: The Boot and Mount Etna seen from space
Images of Earth from space are always kind of mind-boggling… But of course I love them even more when they show Italy off so beautifully.

Don't you just smile when you see the boot outlined so perfectly? And Mount Etna seen from space – just wow.

  • Italians Say It Best: 10 Brilliant Food-Centric Expressions
Well, THIS is a fun list. I think my favorite is "It all ends with biscuits & wine (tutto finisce a tarallucci e vino)," meaning everything will end well, but the one about kids & fried food is pretty amusing, too.
  • Villa of Livia Reopens in Rome
We love hearing about excavated sites in Italy that get renovated & then reopened… As opposed to falling down or getting re-buried for lack of funding. So – yay for Rome, reopening the Villa of Livia to the public.
  • George Clooney ‘to be married by ex-Rome mayor’
In which George Clooney keeps reminding us how fantabulous he is by continuing his long-standing love affair with Italy. *sigh*
  • Things to do in Venice: help locals to fight love padlocks
I'm not a fan of the whole "love locks" phenomenon in Europe, where more often than not it's tantamount to vandalism that does serious damage to historic bridges and other structures. A grassroots campaign in Venice is trying to do something about the love locks in the canal city.
  • Andrea Pirlo and his beard are silently judging people
Oh, man. This guy. THIS GUY.

(For those of you who don’t know, I’m a footy fan – and it kind of all started with watching Andrea Pirlo in the 2006 World Cup. I just love this guy.)
